US coffee shop chain Starbucks has reported a 25% increase in consolidated net revenues for August.

The company said consolidated net revenues were US$418m for the four-week period ended 22 August 2004, compared to $336m for the same period in fiscal 2003.

On a comparable store sales basis (stores open for at least 13 months), sales at company-operated stores increased 8% for the four-week period.

"We are very pleased with our strong monthly results during August, which again exceeded the company's longer-term targets for both revenue and comparable store sales growth," said chairman Howard Schultz.

As of 22 August, Starbucks had 8,337 stores in operations, of which 5,945 are located in the US.
