Tata Globa Beverages has said it could consider moves into the dairy sector as the group looks to expand into new sectors to develop the business.

A Tata spokesman told just-food: "We could also consider the dairy sector as we look at other natural beverages. However, we have not approved any specific proposal at present."

The announcement came after MD and CEO Ajoy Misra told shareholders the group continues "strengthening its core businesses, innovating for growth and tapping white spaces in the market".

Misra said in his annual report to shareholders: "Meeting challenges in the market, strengthening the business and ensuring long-term sustainable growth requires us to be keenly aware of our consumers' needs and changing trends across the world."

Group chairman Cyrus Mistry reportedly said there are plenty of opportunities in the dairy business, "particularly in India", although he said there were no immediate plans to launch dairy products.

Tata, which is the owner of the Tetley tea brand, entered the UK food market for the first time with the launch of branded scones in 2011.
