Tesco has agreed to stop selling Tyrrells crisps after Herefordshire farmer Will Chase said that the supermarket was stocking his branded potato chip without permission.

Chase said that the Tesco had been trying to stock Tyrrells for a year, but that he had rejected the company's requests in order to support the 9,000 independent stores and small multiples, including Waitrose, he currently supplies.

"At Tesco we are very focused on finding new ways of working with small suppliers to bring local products to our customers. Will Chase's comments came as a surprise to us as Tyrrells is one of the companies we have been talking to in this regard," Tesco said in a statement. "We believe Tyrrells have good products, but if they do not want to sell them to Tesco we will of course respect that decision."
