A current Tesco store in Ireland

Tesco has announced plans to open seven new stores and refurbish one outlet in Ireland.

The UK retail giant will invest EUR113m (US$145.5m) in the development and the move will create nearly 750 jobs.

The outlets are located in Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Mayo, Waterford and West Meath. The redeveloped store will be in Tipperary.

Tesco, which opened another Tesco Express outlet last month in Bray, has claimed it is seeing sales recover in Ireland after a difficult 12 months amid some tumultuous economic conditions.

Last month, while reporting its first-quarter sales, Tesco said an "impressive sales recovery" in Ireland had "continued".
