Two senior executives within Wal-Mart Stores' Chinese operations have resigned, the world's largest retailer has confirmed.

COO Rob Cissell and CFO Roland Lawrence have both decided to leave the business "for personal reasons to explore other opportunities".

Wal-Mart, which as of the end of April had 333 outlets in China, declined to comment on the exact reasons for the departure of the two executives - or when the retailer would look to replace them.

"We appreciate their contribution to the company and wish them well in their future endeavours. Walmart China's management team will continue to lead the company toward its future development," the company said yesterday (23 May).
