Unilever has launched ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's in Norway, the company told just-food today (30 October).

The launch sees the brand enter its fourth market in the Nordic region, following its debut in Sweden in 2004.

Jakob Knudsen, the executive responsible for Ben & Jerry's in the region, said consumers had driven the move to launch the brand in Norway.

"There was huge consumer demand. We've had a lot of e-mails asking when Ben & Jerry's would arrive in Norway," Knudsen said. "Unilever does not have an ice cream business in Norway, so that is why the launch was a bit more problematic."

Ben & Jerry's will first appear in the 7-Eleven and Deli de Luca convenience store chains in Norway, Knudsen said.

He added that Unilever would look to roll the brand out further but declined to comment on any timetable.
