Jacob's Oddities range features two variants including cheese and smoky bacon

United Biscuits is to launch bize-sized savoury biscuits in an echo of Nestle's Rowntree's Randoms confectionery range.

Jacob Oddities, which the UK biscuit and snacks maker described as an "amusing mix of unexpected shapes" will go on sale in March. The products will be sold in two flavours - cheese and smoky bacon - and will be available in multi packs of five 25g packs at GBP1.75 (US$2.74), 125g sharing packs with an RRP GBP1.42 and 30g on-the-go packs for GBP0.59.

The launch will be supported by TV, poster, online and radio advertising, plus sampling and in-store activation, the company said.

United Biscuits UK marketing director Jon Eggleton said: "Jacob's Oddities has been developed on the back of the most rigorous consumer research. There is a huge opportunity to grow the savoury biscuits market, particularly with an established brand that is providing a range of new tasty snack biscuits. The launch of Oddities will accelerate the growth of the savoury biscuits category by attracting new, younger consumers through this fun and engaging new product."

In addition, United Biscuits also plans to introduce product extensions for its Jumbo Nuts, Twiglets, McVitie's and McVitie's Cake Co. ranges next year.

The McVitie's Cake Co (MMC) is launching a Jamacia Ginger Cake bars at the end of December. The company said it has launched it to try and get consumers to trial the brand. The brand is also introducing its new Mini Loaves range including Jamaica Ginger and Lyle's Golden Syrup variants, which will be available for GBP1.65 from mid-February.

United Biscuits has added a "tangy" Worcester sauce variant to its Twiglets portfolio. It will be available at retailers for GBP2.78 in January.

Meanwhile, within United Biscuits' cake range, a "double chocolate" product has been added to its McVitie's Medley line. It will be available from January with an RRP of GBP0.55 for a 40g bar and GBP1.95 for a multi-pack format containing six 30g bars.

A honeycomb variant has been added to the company's Jacob's Club, available in an eight-pack format. A toffee flavour has been introduced to McVitie’s Penguin range, which will be launched in a nine-pack format. Both will be available for GBP2.03 from February.

The company has added two variants to its Jumbo Nuts range. Jumbo Salted Nut Mix is a mix of roasted Jumbo peanuts, almonds and cashews. Jumbo Fruit & Nut Mix comprises an unsalted mix of Jumbo peanuts, almonds, cashews, cranberries and golden raisins. The products will be available from March at an RRP of GBP2.40.
