Blog: Dean BestAmazon and France's Casino announce latest project

A year after first joining forces, the US e-commerce titan and the French grocer have set out fresh ways they are to work together.

Casino-branded products are to appear on, while Amazon Lockers will be put in 1,000 of the French retailer's stores - including in its namesake outlets but also in other chains like Geant and Monoprix.

It was via Monoprix that Casino first teamed up with Amazon. In March last year, the upmarket Monoprix chain started selling a range of products on Amazon's Prime Now service in and around Paris.

A third pillar of the latest announcement is Monoprix products will now be available to Prime Now shoppers outside the French capital.

Jean-Charles Naouri, Casino's CEO, said the new deal was "a new step in strengthening Casino's omnichannel strategy". He added: "With this new partnership, we will be able to offer the greatest number of customers the best products and services whenever and wherever they wish."

Casino has been facing some investor concerns over its debts and has been selling off assets, including stores. A three-year strategy plan unveiled in March included a greater focus on e-commerce.

On Monday, Casino announced its latest disposal, a deal to sell 12 Géant Casino hypermarkets, plus 20 Monoprix and Casino supermarket properties, to funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management.
