As I type, grey skies cover south-east London, with drizzle hitting the windows - but the forecast is set fairer for tomorrow when the country has its final public holiday before Christmas Day.

just-food is downing tools on 27 August and will return to bring you your daily diet of international food-industry news and insight the following day, your correspondent feeling refreshed after a week away on England's south-west coast.

Looking through the site, the past seven days have proved busy, with Tyson Foods snapping up US-based Keystone Foods from fellow meat giant Marfrig, Australasian Coke bottler Coca-Cola Amatil indicating it could sell packaged foods unit SPC Ardmona and, of course, the UK government issuing its first "technical notices" on what could be the impact of no deal with the EU on Brexit - which prompted trade body The Food and Drink Federation warning its members face a "grisly" outcome if no agreement is reached.

Perhaps not the most optimistic note on which to sign off.
