Blog: Left-handers' day

Catherine Sleep | 12 August 2003

Just wanted to give you all due warning that tomorrow is left-handers’ day, the “11th annual celebration of left-handers’ superiority,” to quote the official website. Good for them – they apparently spend the rest of the year “grappling with the challenges caused by living in a right-handed world” (yup, their website again), so it’s their day to celebrate the difference and have a bit of fun.

But what I want to know is: how does one go about having a certain day nominated “The XXX day”? Does one simply declare it to be so? In which case, I’m a tenor horn player and I feel we need a day of recognition too. So, I hereby declare Friday 15th August to be “International Tenor Horn Players’ Day”. Get the streamers out; we’re ready to party.
