Hormel Foods said it plans to add production lines at its Dold Foods bacon factory in the US, a move the company said will create about 380 jobs.

The 156,000 square-foot expansion at the site in Wichita in Kansas, is due to start “shortly” with completion targeted for early in 2019, Hormel said yesterday (7 August). New job applications at the Dold Foods facility will be available from around spring 2018.

Dold Foods joined Hormel in 1984 and produces a variety of retail bacon and foodservice “layout” bacon.

Joe Peine, Dold Foods plant manager, said: “We are thrilled to be able to grow our business here in Wichita and offer our community new job opportunities. We have a dedicated team at Dold Foods and making this investment in our area will allow us to continue to add new team members.”

In May, Hormel said it would invest more than U$137m in building and equipping a new plant in Minnesota to boost production at its turkey business Jennie-O Turkey Store.

The same month, Hormel maintained its forecast for annual earnings – a prediction it revised in February – but cautioned its profits could fall at “the lower end” of its projected range, with the US group’s turkey operations expected to continue to face challenges.
