The plan was set out in March and secured approval from local government officials on Thursday (6 July).

“This GBP100m investment will allow us to meet the increased demand for our products, whilst also delivering the latest technology to the site and broader environmental benefits,” a McCain spokesperson said. He added the plan will “secure the continued, long-term success of our site”. The programme will start “over the coming weeks”, the spokesperson said.

In January, McCain announced plans to shed jobs at its dry and cold store operations at its Scarborough facility.

In May, McCain set out plans to increase production capacity at a plant in the US. In February, the company announced it would add a french fry production line at a facility in Belgium.
