US food group C.H. Guenther & Son has struck a deal to buy Canadian frozen foods business Les Plats du Chef from Claridge, the investment holding of Canadian businessman Stephen Bronfman, for an undisclosed sum.

Montreal-based Plats du Chef, owned by Claridge since 2002, manufactures and distributes retail and foodservice frozen dips, soups, snacks, appetizers and meals to customers in the US and Canada.

Dale Tremblay, C.H. Guenther’s president and CEO, said: “Plats du Chef has done a great job of creating new products that are on trend with today’s consumer which is evident based on their success with Club Stores and Retail Chains in both the US and Canada. I believe that with the talent and resources within both companies, we can work with the Plats du Chef team to take the business to a whole new level.”

Pierre Boivin, the president and CEO of Claridge, insisted the fund was “excited about the future growth prospects” of Plats du Chef under C.H. Guenther’s ownership. He said C.H. Guenther’s “resources and successful track-record to allow Plats du Chef to grow and prosper and reach its full potential”.
