Tesco-Global Aruhazak, which claims to be Hungary’s biggest hypermarket chain, said sales rose to 124.8bn forints (US$549.5m) for the first half of the year, compared to 99bn forints in the year-ago period.

The company attributed the increased sales to its expansion programme. Tesco has 29 hypermarkets in Hungary and plans to open four more by the end of the year.

Tesco entered Hungary in 1994 and employs 13,000 staff there, reported Reuters.
