Shares in Krispy Kreme were given a boost on Friday after a report that US fastfood giant McDonald’s could be interested in buying the doughnut company.

J.P. Morgan analyst John Ivankoe said in a note that McDonald’s and Triarc Cos could be interested in buying Krispy Kreme, reported Reuters.

Krispy Kreme has been struggling in the last few months due to weak sales it has blamed on the popularity of low-carbohydrate diets. The company is also facing an investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Ivankoe said McDonald’s currently sells Krispy Kreme doughnuts at 13 outlets in Canada as part of a trial run.
