Ebro Foods is investing in a pasta, rice and grain product production plant in the US.

The facility, in Tennessee, will process and distribute individually quick frozen rice, pasta and grain products. Expansion will create 16 new jobs in the region, according to a statement for the Economic Development Growth Engine board of Memphis and Shelby County.

The EDGE board, which is supporting the development, said Ebro has committed to capital investments totalling US$24m in a processing facility located on Prospect Street. The company is also required to spend “at least” $3m with “certified minority and locally owned businesses”, EDGE noted.

Ebro already operates one production plant in Memphis, which is run by its Riviana Foods subsidiary. In total, the European food manufacturer operates eight production sites in the country.

Spain-based Ebro is focusing on expanding its global operations both organically and via M&A. Commenting on its performance in 2016 last month, the company said the “very positive year was marked by intense organic and inorganic growth”, expanded and optimised industrial capacity “and intense work in the areas of innovation, commercial and marketing”. Ebro booked a jump in 2016 profits but reported sales were flat in the period.
