Hershey has issued a new pledge on the calories contained in its products, setting a new commitment taking in a chunk of its confectionery lines.

The Reese’s maker said half its “total portfolio of individually-wrapped standard- and king-size” confectionery products would contain a maximum of 200 calories by 2022. At present, about 31% of those lines already contain 200 calories.

Hershey said it “expects” to meet the pledge through reformulation, “innovative new products” and “adjusting the size of certain items” in the portfolio.

In a separate pledge, Hershey has said the products would carry the Facts Up Front calorie label by the end of this year, up from 70% at present.

“We aim to delight our consumers and these steps will provide an even wider range of portion options and clear information to help them select treats that fit their lifestyle,” Hershey president and CEO Michele Buck said on Friday (21 April).
