Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo has taken Entenmann’s, one of its US bread brands, into the country’s chocolate sector.

Bimbo has teamed up with US chocolate licensing business Praim Group to launch the products.

Praim said the Entenmann’s bars would be available in flavours “reminiscent” of the firm’s sweet baked goods including Dark Chocolate Raspberry Burst and Dark Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch. Each of the 2.15oz bars are kosher. The new bars are on sale at an MSRP of US$1.99 each.

Kerry Laramie, Praim’s sales director, said the move would extend the Entenmann’s brand “into other aisles in the grocery store and into new retailers”.

Bimbo is one of the largest bakery groups in North America. In 2016, the company saw its net sales in the region grow by over 16%. However, the result was boosted by exchange rates, with sales in dollars down 1.1%. Volumes, Bimbo said, were “unchanged”. The company added: “Performance in the frozen, snacks and sweet baked goods categories, as well as growth in strategic brands, helped offset the overall challenges in bread consumption.”

Earlier this month, Bimbo acquired Canada-based Stonemill Bakehouse – a producer of slow fermented craft breads baked in stone ovens using 100% natural, non-GMO certified and organic ingredients.
