The Commission said the operation does not raise any competition concerns given that the companies are presently active in different countries.

The Commission found that the proposed transaction would give rise to small overlaps only. This is the case for fresh pig meat, and beef for direct human consumption as well as the supply of fresh meat (pig meat, beef and poultry, respectively) for further processing. But no competition concerns were identified either on a national basis or on an EU-wide basis.

The Commission also examined whether the joint acquisition could lead to cooperation between Danish Crown and HK Ruokatalo on markets where they will remain competitors i.e. Denmark and Finland. However, the Commission concluded that there was no serious risk to competition.
