Danone has told just-food it aims to double the size of its business in India over the next three years, boosted by new products and by exports from its operations in the country.

The French giant this week launched its Aptamil infant formula brand in India as part of what it said are  “aggressive plans” to grow its nutrition business in the country.

A spokesperson for the company said today (18 January): “Our ambition is to double sales of the entire portfolio in India by 2020 and the nutrition business will be a very strong focus within that.”

Danone’s Neocate infant formula product will also be launched in India by the middle of this year, the spokesperson revealed.

“We will launch Neocate for children suffering from cow’s milk allergy and also a range of metabolic products for inborn error of metabolism by mid-2017,” the spokesperson said. “In addition to this, we plan to launch new variants from our existing portfolio and line extensions.”

Meanwhile, Danone confirmed it had recently started exporting its advanced medical nutrition brand Protinex and baby nutrition brand Farex to neighbouring countries Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. “We are also evaluating opportunities to export other products to these countries,” the spokesperson said.
