Pure Growth Organic, a US company marketing organic snacks aimed at children, has become the latest firm to receive investment from Sunrise Strategic Partners, the fund set up by the former CEO of Boulder Brands.

Sunrise, established last February by Steve Hughes and private-equity firm Trilantic North America, has made a “minority investment” in Pure Growth Organic, the crisps and popcorn maker said today (11 January).

“With Sunrise’s investment we are well positioned to take Pure Growth to the next level and expand the brand into additional channels and product offerings,” Chris Clarke, who co-founded Pure Growth Organic alongside Sabrina Peterson in 2015, said.

Sunrise said its backing for Pure Growth Organic would help the firm expand its sales and marketing team, develop the management of its supply chain and enter the grocery channel.

Part of Pure Growth Organic’s strategy has seen the company team up with entertainment giants including Universal Pictures and Disney to sell snacks with characters from films such as Despicable Me and Frozen on the packaging.

Hughes said: “I love Chris and Sabrina’s innovation to partner with Mickey Mouse and other beloved children’s characters to bring affordable organic snacks mainstream. Millennials continue to choose organic snack alternatives over existing legacy offerings. Yet there are limited better-for-you snack products for 2-12 year olds, leaving millennial mums with a major vacuum to deal with once their children graduate from organic baby food.”
