Vinamilk, Vietnam’s largest dairy company, has launched what it claims is the first organic milk to go on sale in the country.

The group is rolling out an organic fresh milk made in the US and certified by the US Department of Agriculture.

“The trend of consuming organic produce has just started to develop in Vietnam in recent years,” Vinamilk told just-food. “As the leading dairy manufacturer in Vietnam, Vinamilk aims at providing our consumers with internationally certified products, so that everyone can have access to organic products in Vietnam conveniently.”

The milk is being sold for around VND50,000 (US$2.24) for a litre carton. Vinamilk is selling the product through its own stores and in other supermarket outlets. Vinamilk has over 100 of its own shops in Vietnam.

Last month, Vinamilk announced plans to become the sole shareholder in US firm Driftwood Dairy. In a stock exchange filing, Vinamilk said it had decided to up its shareholding in Driftwood from 70% to 100%. Vinamilk is paying US$10m for the remaining chunk of Driftwood.

Vinamilk first invested in Driftwood in 2013 when it acquired its initial 70% stake.
