TreeHouse Foods has confirmed it is bumping up the number of natural and organic food items it produces and plans to sell them through the acquired ConAgra Foods private-label unit.

The US own-label business said it had renamed the acquired assets from ConAgra TreeHouse Private Brands.

Confirming details supplied by CEO Sam Reed and CFO Dennis Riordan in an interview with Reuters, a spokesperson for TreeHouse said the company is already producing organic, natural, no-artificial ingredient products for its retail customers but added “that number will be increasing” on the back of consumer demand.

The spokesperson said innovation would “certainly” be a route-to-market for the increase in the number of better-for-you products. TreeHouse also said there was no specific roll-out dates for the products as their production would be on a “customer-by-customer basis”.

“It should also be pointed out that the introduction of any private-label product can be a somewhat lengthy process involving the planning and collaboration of the retail customers’ marketing teams and produced to the customer’s specifications,” the spokesperson added.

TreeHouse Foods acquired ConAgra Foods’ struggling private label unit last November in a US$2.7bn deal.
