UK supermarket group Wm Morrison has seen its market share decline recently as a result of falling sales at its newly acquired Safeway chain.

According to industry data compiled by TNS, Morrison group’s market share was 14.1% for the 12 weeks to 20 June, compared to 14.2% in the 12 weeks to 23 May, reported Reuters.
Safeway stores had a market share of 7.8% in the 12 weeks to 20 June, compared to 8.0% in the 12 weeks to 23 May. Meanwhile, Morrison stores’ market share increased to 6.3% from 6.2%.
Tesco continued to gain market share, increasing its share to 27.9% from 27.6%. While Asda and Somerfield both saw their market share decline by a tenth of a percentage point over the period, Sainsbury’s market share increased to 15.6% from 15.5%.
