PepsiCo is taking its Walkers Sunbites brand into the popcorn category in the UK.

Sunbites Wholegrain Popcorn will be available in three flavours from this month: Sweet & Salty; Lightly Sea Salted and Sweet Caramel.

PepsiCo said popcorn had seen “considerable growth” in the last year of 30%.

Thomas Barkholt, marketing director for PepsiCo in the UK, said: “We’re very excited to bring the increasingly popular Sunbites brand into the popcorn category, providing the perfect snack for consumers to enjoy with their lunch or as an afternoon snack. It offers an alternative snack with that all-important irresistible Sunbites taste. That’s why Sunbites – known for providing great-tasting, whole and multigrain snacks – is what the popcorn market has been waiting for.”

The popcorn has an RRP of GBP0.89 (US$1.25).

PepsiCo launched the Sunbites brand in 2007, positioning the product as a healthier crisp. It relaunched the brand in 2011 to give a boost to sales.
