Yorkshire Provender has increased its production capacity as the the UK chilled soup business hopes to build on a year when its retail sales grew 30%.

The company has spent GBP2.9m (US$4.1m) on a new factory close to its previous site in Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire. The plant has a capacity of 25,000 tonnes a year, up from 3,000 tonnes.

Yorkshire Provender said its retail sales reached GBP10m in 2015, up 30% year-on-year. Citing data from Kantar Worldpanel for the 52 weeks to 6 December, the privately-owned business said the increase had “significantly exceeded” the rate of growth in the category, which saw sales rise 8.4%.

Co-founder Terry Williams said: “The new factory provides much-needed additional capacity to meet growing consumer demand and underpins Yorkshire Provender’s long term growth plans. We look forward to an exciting 2016.”

Meanwhile, the company has added two soups to its range – Thai green chicken noodle and Indian spiced vegetable.
