US cereal manufacturer General Mills is to offer reduced-sugar versions of three of its most popular children’s cereals.
The company said the move was in response to changing consumer needs. Its new reduced-sugar Trix, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cocoa Puffs contain 75% less sugar than the original versions and were developed using a blend of sugar and Splenda sweetener.
Jean Storlie, manager of General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition, said the reduced-sugar cereals provide the same essential vitamins and minerals as the original versions.
The products will be available nationwide from mid-July 2004.
