Food-to-go manufacturer Greencore plans to more than double the number of people employed at its Hatfield distribution depot after securing a new customer win.

The company, which opened the site in Hatfield Business Park in November last year, said that it wants to increase the number of people employed at the facility to 170. Currently 70 people work at the site.

Greencore also expects to recruit a further 150 staff at its other depots in “early 2016”. New vacancies are expected at its northern distribution hub in Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire, Greencore revealed.

The sandwich maker said that expansion of its distribution capabilities will enable it to handle increased volumes, which are the result of a new customer win. The company did not provide further details.

Commenting on the news, Steve Evans, managing director for operations at Greencore Food to Go said that the expansion would support higher volumes at Greencore’s UK food-to-go business. “This new facility [in Hatfield], together with the additional customer volume provides an excellent strategic platform for our future growth.”
