Terra Lacta, the France-based dairy co-operative, has snapped up Fromacoeur, a supplier of dairy-based aperitif products.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Fromacoeur, based in the western town of Charente, 50 miles from Terra Lacta’s headquarters in Surgères, supplies products including goat’s milk cheese balls and mini raclettes.

With an annual turnover of EUR8m (US$9.5m), Fromacoeur sells to “major, national retailers”, manufacturers and the out-of-home sector, Terra Lacta said. It employs just under 50 staff.

Terra Lacta, which sells dairy items including milk, cheese and butter, said the deal “strengthens” its range and gives its farmers “a quality local outlet” for their milk.

Daniel Chevreul, Terra Lacta’s CEO, added: “Fromacoeur has real strengths such as a varied and innovative range of products, recognized know-how in R&D [and] a modern industrial site. Terra Lacta is consolidating its position as a major dairy player in New Aquitaine. The co-operative wants to develop synergies on all markets, as well as for exports.”

Terra Lacta has 1,500 members that are part of its co-operative.
