Chinese meat producer People’s Food Holdings has said it has reopened two plants which the company closed due to the outbreak of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

The Singapore-listed company said it has resumed pig slaughtering at two plants on a reduced scale but one plant remains closed.

“The directors believe that it is in the best interest of the group to adopt a cautious approach upon resumption of the pig slaughtering activities at the Meishan and Tongliao production plants,” People’s Food was quoted by AFX Asia as saying.

“The directors will continue to closely monitor the situation regarding the SARS epidemic (in China),” the company added.
