Fazenda Futuro, the Brazilian manufacturer best-known for its meat alternatives, has expanded into faux seafood.

The company has launched Future Tuna, a soy- and pea-based product. Fazenda Futuro said the shelf-stable product will be sold in Brazil and Europe in chunk form in ready-to-eat vacuum-packs.

The business is already present in 24 countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and the US with its meat-free range which includes burgers, meatballs and sausages.

Founder Marcos Leta said: “It’s about time we make fishing obsolete, offering plant-based tuna to those who love fish. Future Tuna also innovates as the brand’s first ready-to-eat, non-frozen product, sold next to regular canned tuna.”

Fazenda Futuro suggests Future Tuna has the same taste, texture, and look as regular tuna. It has developed its flavour alongside Australian food engineers.

Aside from soy and peas, its ingredients list is made up of chickpeas, olive oil, radish, and microalgae oil, “securing significant amounts of omega 3”.
