The possible job cuts were revealed as Giant’s chief executive Dick Baird and Stop & Shop CEO Marc Smith announced the next phase of the integration of the headquarters of the two units of Dutch retailer Ahold.

The changes are part of the previously announced integration of Stop & Shop and Giant of Landover operations into a single administrative arena.

Smith was named head of the combined organisation in February. Ahold has also named Bill Holmes as executive vice president and general manager of Giant of Landover as part of the integration. Holmes was previously executive vice president of sales and operations at Stop & Shop.

The company said that around 650 Giant Landover administrative jobs would be impacted by the integration of the two headquarters operations. Some employees may be able to transfer to other positions within the company, Giant said.
