Dutch dairy group Campina has announced plans to close its Käserei Niederrhein production facility in Niedermörmter, Germany in 2005.

Campina said that closing the facility, which is part of Campina’s Holland Cheese BV division, is in line with the group’s strategy to improve the efficiency and yield of its production facilities.
Around 65 employees work at the Niedermörmter facility, the company said, adding that the production capacity will be transferred to the Born and Bleskensgraaf facilities in the Netherlands. Campina said it will invest over €5m (US$6.0m) in its cheese production facilities in Born and Bleskensgraaf because of the move.
“From a business economics perspective, increasing the scale of our facility in Niedermörmter is practically impossible because of the substantial investments required,” said P.J. Hilarides, director of Campina’s Holland Cheese BV division.
“This is why we plan to transfer the production volume, in addition to modifying the range of products currently produced at Käserei Niederrhein to better meet the demands of our customers. We expect these measures will help improve efficiency and yield,” Hilarides added.
