Japan has approved the resumption of imports of heat-treated processed poultry products from China, which were banned in January after a bird flu outbreak in China.
Japan’s agriculture ministry confirmed that 35 plants selected by the Chinese government for producing poultry products for the Japanese market had met Japanese sanitary requirements, reported Kyodo News.
Imports are to resume shortly, with the first batch expected to arrive in Japan by the end of April. Japan’s ban on raw poultry from China is to remain in place.
