US retail titan Wal-Mart may be willing to help struggling Japanese retailer Daiei without the Industrial Revitalisation Corp of Japan (IRCJ) playing a part in the rehabilitation.

Besides indicating an interest in assisting Daiei, Wal-Mart has also submitted an independent plan for the Japanese company’s rehabilitation, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.


However, Daiei is believed to be reluctant to have an industry rival such as Wal-Mart, which part-owns Japanese retail chain Seiyu, as a sponsor in its rehabilitation, and is also reluctant to use the IRCJ.
