Australia’s food standards authority has said it is considering lifting its long-running ban on Roquefort cheese.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) does not currently allow imports of Roquefort because the cheese is made from raw milk that has not been pasteurised or heat-treated.


However FSANZ said it was considering an application from the French agriculture ministry on behalf of Roquefort manufacturers, reported Agence France Presse. The application to allow imports of the cheese cited the strict sanitary conditions under which Roquefort is made.
