US-based fastfood chain Subway has opened its 300th UK and Ireland store and is on track to open over 2,000 outlets there by 2010, according to Fred DeLuca, president and co-founder of Subway.

The sandwich chain plans to open a further 1,700 outlets across the UK and Ireland over the next six years, creating a further 17,000 jobs with an investment of over £170m (US$315.5m).


“Subway Restaurants has experienced rapid growth in the UK and Ireland recently and is leading our international expansion. The UK and Ireland is an excellent blueprint for growth and we plan to mirror that success across Europe,” DeLuca said.


Subway, which has over 21,000 outlets worldwide, also aims to open over 4,000 outlets across Europe by 2010.
