An environmental group is taking the world’s largest poultry company, Tyson, to court for allegedly failing to take care of noxious releases on one of its contracted farms.
The Sierra Club alleges that Kentucky-based Tyson Foods failed to report releases of ammonia on four large ‘chicken houses.’ Local residents have also filed complaints in court against Tyson and the chicken farms over the smell.
In a statement, Tyson says there have been no authoritative studies to accurately quantify emissions from chicken houses and says they have been offered no guidance on emissions by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
