Chinese meat processor People’s Food has said the outbreaks of bird flu virus in Asia have not affected its mainland operations.

People’s Food said the majority of its livestock purchases in China were live pigs, not poultry, reported Reuters.

“The board confirms that the operations of the group have not been affected by the bird flu virus,” the company was quoted as saying.

Outbreaks of bird flu in Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have led to the deaths of thousands of chickens. At least four people are thought to have died from the disease in Vietnam. China is on high alert to prevent the disease from crossing its borders.
