US fastfood giant Burger King is introducing a low-carb alternative to several of its most popular menu offerings.
Consumers following a low-carbohydrate diet will now be able to order variations on Burger King’s Whopper sandwiches that do not include the bread bun. Each low-carb burger will contain five grams of carbohydrates or less, the company said.
All of the low-carb Whoppers will also be available as part of a Value Meal that will include a side salad and a Diet Coke.
In February, Burger King plans to introduce a new low-carb burger, the Fire-Grilled Angus Steakburger Lettuce Wrap, containing a third of a pound of beef wrapped in lettuce and served with tomato and a packet of low-carb sauce.
Burger King is not the only company to introduce low-carb alternatives to cope with the rising popularity of low-carb diets such as the Atkins plan. This week Unilever announced it was launching low-carb line extensions to some of its brands, while PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay announced it planned to launch low-carb tortilla chips.
