The ACCC said it was not against the “shopper docket” scheme, despite claims that such discount schemes would reduce the number of independent fuel operators and lower competition, reported Reuters.

“It found that the introduction of the shopper docket schemes has encouraged competition and lower prices in the fuel market,” ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Australian retail giants Coles Myer and Woolworths both offer discounted petrol to customers who spend a certain amount in their stores, in an effort to win market share.
