The Canadian subsidiary of US cereals giant Kellogg is to give away more than 800,000 pedometers to encourage people to walk further.

The pedometers will be included in boxes of Special K and Special K Red Berries, cereals aimed at those seeking a healthy diet. To encourage consumers to use the pedometers, they will be invited to record their progress at a website hosted by Canada on the Move, a national initiative set up by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
