The study on Amish in Ontario, Canada, published in the US Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, said the religious group stays trim because of high levels of daily activity.


The average Amish man logged 18,000 steps of walking per day whilst the average woman logged 14,000 steps per day. Of the 96 Amish studied, none of the men were obese, and only two of the women were obese. This compares to a 14.9% obesity rate in Canada and 30.9% in the USA.
