The UFCW, which represents around 70,000 striking and locked-out grocery workers in Southern California, claimed it has evidence that between 50 and 100 striking workers had been hired back by the chain and told to use false names, reported Reuters.
“The lawsuit seeks to stop the practice of hiring locked-out workers and having them work under false names and Social Security numbers,” union spokeswoman Barbara Maynard told Reuters.
Around 70,000 workers in Southern California at Albertsons, Safeway’s Vons and Pavilions, and Kroger’s Ralphs, have been either on strike or locked out since October in a dispute over health care costs.
