It has been written by the Commission into a directive on the issue, which says that seeds containing more than 0.3% to 0.7% GM organisms, depending on the species, would have to be labelled as genetically modified.

The proposal has upset organic food production groups, because in its current shape the directive would apply to organic seeds, meaning seeds labelled as ‘organic’ seeds could actually contain some GM material.
