Japanese meat processor Itoham Foods has been fined Y30m over a tax evasion case, according to local reports.

The Tokyo District Court imposed the fine, which was three times the amount demanded by prosecutors, on Itoham for its involvement in the evasion of duties by a meat importer.


According to a report by the Kyodo News, Itoham was alleged to have knowingly bought 3,000 tonnes of meat from importer Seiko between 2002 and 2004, knowing that the proper tariffs had not been paid.
