Dutch retailing giant Royal Ahold has told the Financieele Dagblad newspaper that some market players have been spreading false rumours about the company.

The allegations came after Ahold saw its shares plummet on Friday, by as much as 7% at one point. Market watchers explained at the time that some dealers were reacting to concerns that the method used by Ahold to calculate organic growth is irregular.
