The pickle business was acquired by then Dean Pickle and Specialty Products, a subsidiary of Dean Foods Company in June 2000, following which Dean Pickle entered into a two-year agreement with Agrilink to continue packing the pickles at the Tacoma location.

The pickle plant closure will result in workforce reductions of 112 people by 30 June 2002. Agrilink Foods notified employees, union officials and local government representatives last week that terminations will be completed by the end of June. The unions representing the affected workers include Teamsters Local 599 and Machinists Local 297. Agrilink Foods is currently working with Union officials on the impact of this closing and will be providing job assistance to all affected employees.

This closure does not affect the other manufacturing operations of Agrilink Foods in Tacoma, which continue to produce canned meals, soups and salad dressings under familiar West Coast labels including Nalley Fine Foods, Bernsteins, Mariner’s Cove and Riviera.
