Mardi Cohen has launched a class-action lawsuit against Big Daddy ice cream, claiming that its mislabelled product has cost her pounds in extra weight.

The disgruntled ice-cream fanatic “was eating one container per day”, explained her Fort Lauderdale attorney Howard Tescher, “not realizing it had the same number of Weight Watchers points as a doughnut”.

The manufacturer had mislabelled the reduced-fat ice cream as claiming it that a 12-ounce serving contained 100 calories and 2g of fat. New labels introduced last June, however, showed that the strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate flavoured cartons actually contained 282 calories and 6g of fat for the same size serving.

Tescher explained that Cohen was “angry” when she discovered the true calorie count of Big Daddy ice cream, and that the action rested on Big Daddy’s parent company, DeConna Ice Cream, violated Florida’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The company planned to offer customers coupons to make up for the mislabelling.
