Masterfoods Australia has said it is disappointed by the Victorian government’s decision to ban the sale of junk food in school canteens beginning in 2009, in an attempt to tackle childhood obesity.

According to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Masterfoods has said that the best response to the issue is educating young people to eat healthily.
“We believe by and large the best way to do that is through education rather than prohibition of certain foods, or bans,” Masterfoods’ external affairs director Simon Bromell said.
“So we’ll continue to work with the government. However, we’d prefer to see all foods available in moderation and children educated about how to incorporate those foods into their diet.”
